Product Description

STEINEL IS 2140 ECO is a white wall-mounted PIR motion detector for automatic lighting indoors and outdoors. 140° coverage and up to 14 m tangential reach suit entrances, paths, terraces and driveways. The adjustable sensor head helps aim the detection field precisely. Article 034672, EAN 4007841034672.

Understanding detection

  • Up to 14 m tangentially (239 m²): detection is most reliable when a person moves across the field.
  • Up to 3 m on direct approach (11 m²): moving straight towards the detector gives a shorter range. These distances are measured from the sensor, not across a full circle.
  • Adjustable coverage: aim the head and mask unwanted sectors to exclude a neighbouring path or road.

Sneak-by protection covers the area below the detector. The 180° horizontal swivel and 90° tilt help aim coverage at a narrow entrance or along a building wall.

PIR detects heat from moving people or animals; it cannot detect through glass or walls. Maximum reach depends on movement direction, installation height and ambient temperature. Keep the view clear and avoid aiming at nearby lights or other heat sources.

Settings and lighting control

  • 8 s–35 min delay: light remains on for the selected period after the last detected movement; new movement restarts the timer.
  • 2–2000 lx threshold: sets how dark the surroundings must be for movement to switch the light on. A lower setting is for darkness; a higher setting also permits operation in brighter conditions.
  • Potentiometer settings: time delay and brightness are adjusted on the detector. There is no Bluetooth connection or app.
  • Relay on/off operation: switches one lighting circuit without dimming or background lighting.

An external changeover switch can provide continuous light according to the manufacturer’s diagram. This is not an automatic four-hour override timer. Multiple detectors can be interconnected by cable as shown in the wiring diagram; this does not increase the permitted lighting load.

Electrical specifications and switching loads

Supply: 230 – 240 V / 50 – 60 Hz. Live L and neutral N are required; the light receives switched live L′. The output is not a potential-free contact.

Incandescent/halogen lampsUp to 1000 W according to the manual; see clarification below
Low-voltage halogen lamps1000 VA
LED lamps <2 W100 W
LED lamps >2 W and <8 W125 W
LED lamps >8 W250 W
Number of lampsUp to 50; the relevant total power limit also applies
Total capacitanceUp to 132 µF
Fluorescent lamps, electronic ballast250 W
Fluorescent lamps, uncorrected500 VA
Fluorescent lamps, series-corrected1000 VA
Fluorescent lamps, parallel-corrected500 VA

Each LED rating is the combined load of all connected lamps in that category. Choose the category by the wattage of one LED lamp. Driver inrush current and capacitance also matter; the resistive rating is not an LED load rating.

Load clarification: the article data sheet specifies 2000 W resistive, while the linked installation manual specifies 1000 W for incandescent and halogen lamps. Plan for no more than 1000 W unless the manufacturer confirms the rating for the supplied version. The lower data-sheet limits of 100/125/250 W are used here for LED loads.

Housing, installation and supplied items

UV-resistant plastic housing; net weight 172 g. IP54 protects against harmful dust ingress and splashing water when correctly installed with the cable seals. Operating temperature: −20…+50°C.

Supplied with one detector, mounting base and masking elements. A corner mounting bracket is optional and sold separately. The controlled light and external switches are sold separately.

5-year manufacturer warranty, subject to STEINEL terms. A qualified installer must complete mains wiring in accordance with the instructions. Clean the lens using a slightly damp cloth without cleaning agents. Manufacturer: STEINEL GmbH, Dieselstraße 80–84, 33442 Herzebrock-Clarholz, Germany; product@steinel.de.
